Day of recollection
From April 6-9 the students of the Ratisbonne went on their yearly study trip. This year the trip was to Galilee. The three nights of the trip were spent in Nazareth at Casa Nova, next door to the Basilica of the Annunciation. Here is a brief listing of the places visited along with some pictures:
Bet Shean - a now ruined city which boasted some of the greatest architecture of the time.
The Bet Alfa synagogue/church. This place of worship, not definitively known as a church or synagogue houses very interesting, if naive, floor mosaics.
Ein Harod;
Naim, the place Jesus raised a widows son to life;
Mount Tabor, where Our Lord was transfigured. Here Mass was also celebrated as a group.
Nazarth - where there is the beautiful basilica with its museum, and various other sites associated with the life of Mary.
Megiddo, a famed city, destroyed over 25 times, apocalyptically known as the place of the Final Battle.
Akko, a crusader city, last to resist those who attacked the knights.
Cana.
Hatzor.
Tel Dan.
Banias.
Caesarea Phillipi.
Capernaum and Tabgha here much of the ministry of Jesus occurred.
Magdala, this is where there is a archaeological investigation of the Legionaries of Christ over the1st century synagogue.
Cursi and Hippos - these cities are on the "other side" of the lake which Mark famously mentions in his gospel. They were part of the ancient Decapolis.
