Sean's Perpetual Profession
On Saturday 13th November Br Sean McEwen made his perpetual vows as a
Salesian. The ceremony took place in Our Lady of Sion chapel at the
Ratisbonne Monastery. The profession took place during Mass presided
over by Fr. Francesco Cereda, General Councillor for Formation. It
was Fr. Cereda who also received Br. Sean's vows in the name of the
Rector Major. During his homily Fr. Cereda spoke of the total
commitment of love that the definitive vows represent. In connection
to this he pointed to the example of the Prophet Jeremiah.
The profession itself took the form of Br. Sean making a public declaration of the commitment entailed by perpetual vows, then as he prostrates himself on the floor the litany of the saints was chanted. After this he made his prayer of consecration, which was received and publicly validated by Fr. Cereda. It was a beautiful and simple ceremony, rich in meaning.
Following the Mass and profession light refreshments were served along with some entertainment from the 2nd Year group.
