Quaterly Recollection
Today the Salesian community had their quarterly day of recollection in Cremisan, Bethlehem. This is a day set aside in the Salesian rule dedicated to prayer and reflection. This day had as its focus lectio divina. Each of the four year groups divided up to meditate on one of the readings for the first Sunday of Advent. This method of prayer allows participants to enter into the biblical text, listen to what God is saying in the liturgical season and to the individual and then finally engage the person in forming their own prayers to God.
Following lectio was the community Mass presided by Fr. Julian Fox. In his homily he spoke about being prepared for the end of our lives and the end of time (as the readings suggested) but also about the new beginning that God wants to initiate. Towards the end of the liturgical year there is present the tension between the eschatological end and the the new beginning of eternity. The Mass for offered for the deceased parents of Salesians.
In the afternoon Fr. Fox again addressed the community, this time in a talk about Mamma Margaret. November 25th commemorates her death.
Finally, in the early evening the community prayed the Rosary for all deceased Salesians of the MOR province, in the mausoleum on the property.
